Legal/ Judicial Information
The Isla Vista Foot Patrol prioritizes medical emergencies over other violations. Many students are concerned about the presence of alcohol/drug paraphernalia. If the police show up, they are
not likely
to cite you for it. However, your best bet may be to put this stuff out of view.
In cases of medical transport, parents/guardians will NOT be contacted by UCSB if the person is 18+.
Medical transports do not affect a student’s academic status at UCSB.
Medical Information
It is
100% FREE
for an ambulance to come evaluate someone you think may have alcohol poisoning/drug overdose.
If the emergency staff determines a medical transport is not needed, there is
no charge
.
If the emergency staff determines the person needs to go to the hospital, it’s good that you called because they absolutely needed medical attention.
Undergraduate Student Health Insurance (USHIP) covers the cost of one ambulance ride per year. Private insurance companies are likely to cover the cost also. There may be a deductible to pay but remember, the life of the person is more valuable.
All UCSB students have health insurance because it is a requirement of the university. If a student does not have USHIP through Student Health they have private insurance.
