If a UCSB student is arrested or cited for an alcohol or
other drug offense in Isla
Vista or another area adjacent to campus, that student will
receive a letter of
concern from the campus with referral to sources of
assistance. Approximately one
week later a letter of concern containing notification of
the student’s citation
or arrest will be mailed to the student’s parents or
guardians with an enclosure
containing suggestions on how to address the issue with
their student.
Letters issued under parental notification do not constitute
a disciplinary action
by the campus nor do they become part of a student’s
disciplinary record at UCSB.
The goal of parental notification at UCSB is to enlist
parental support for fostering
more appropriate student behavior to create a safer
community environment and reduce
the many negative impacts of substance abuse.
